Cybersecurity is an essential part of technological growth that acts as a protective system against malicious attacks. The industry by itself is evolving rapidly and is considered critical in protecting the internet connected systems world over from cyber threats. Businesses and individuals extensively employ cybersecurity to secure themselves against unauthorised access to data.

Cybercrime and its various forms are growing at an exponential rate every year. Its damages are projected to exceed a staggering $6 trillion in 2021!

It’s said that every 39 seconds a computer is hacked. Yes, you heard that right! To protect the data of millions of customers and to counter this galloping crime rate, banks, tech companies, hospitals, government agencies and just about any sector are rapidly investing in cybersecurity infrastructure.

What is cybersecurity?

In simple terms, cybersecurity includes a wide range of practices to protect computer operating systems, networks, and data from cyber-attacks. Cyber Security plays a vital role in the 21st century. Computers, smartphones and the internet have become bare essentials, that it’s hard to imagine how we would function without them.

Organisations no longer look at cybersecurity as a barrier or an additional expense but a critical investment for business growth and to build customer trust. Although more resources are being allocated in cybersecurity, the industry still has a long way to go. There is a shortage of 2.93 million Cyber Security professionals worldwide.

The Importance of Cybersecurity in the UK.

In recent times, the UK is one of the few countries that have demonstrated extensive growth in IT. This growth has created a higher demand for cybersecurity jobs.

Yet, employers are tasked with finding professionals with the right skillset.

To cater to this demand, many universities across the UK now offer cybersecurity courses, equipping students with a wide range of skills.

What does a Cyber Security Degree course cover?

A bachelors degree in Cybersecurity usually takes 3 years to complete. A Master’s degree takes 1 year to complete. Some universities also offer part-time options.

The foundation of the field is covered in an undergraduate degree, after which more complex concepts are looked into. The degree is delivered in various modes such as lectures and seminars from industry professionals followed by laboratory sessions.

Undergraduates with a degree in Computer Science and Information Technology have the option of pursuing a Master’s degree in Cyber Security. A Master’s degree in Cybersecurity equips students with a range of industry-informed knowledge and skills. Besides, a Master’s degree covers both the managerial and technical aspects of Cyber Security.

How can you benefit from studying Cybersecurity in the UK?

  1. UK Universities are at the forefront, offering diverse skills across security science, software engineering and technology. To ensure it delivers all the skills needed for the workplace, cybersecurity courses are designed in consultation with the industry. For instance, most universities help you enhance your employability by preparing you for the BSI ISO 27001 lead auditor certifications during your Master’s – a certification in cybersecurity that is highly sought after by employers.
  1. The UK is known and recognised for its quality of education and the facilities and equipment made available to its students. Studying Cybersecurity in the UK provides students with the same benefits – Advanced teaching facilities, sufficiently equipped computer labs and state of the art infrastructure. Cranfield University, for instance, is known for its unrivalled facilities and industry-standard infrastructure.
  1. Universities in the UK emphasis on research-based education, allowing students to gain holistic knowledge on the subject. This approach often allows students to question current processes and approaches and to devise new and better solutions to keep up with the rapidly changing environment of the industry. As a seal of approval, The NCSC ( National Cyber Security Centre) certifies many UK universities for the cutting edge and internationally leading research they conduct. University of Northumbria, DeMontfort University, Queen’s College Belfast are some of the educational institutions recognized for their research programs.
  1. UK Universities are well networked with leading companies in the industry and provide students with first-hand training, work placement opportunities and apprenticeships. Students receive a blend of industry experience and strong academic grounding. For instance, Coventry University’s Master’s programme in Cyber Security provides students with the additional option of applying for work placement during the first semester, extending their master’s for a duration of 24 months, with an opportunity to develop expertise and experience.
  1. Jobs in cybersecurity are highly rewarding in the UK. The Starting salaries for a cybersecurity analyst typically falls between £25,000 and £35,000. The salaries across the sector are steadily rising as there is a projection of 1,00,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the UK, by 2022. (According to the global information security workforce study).

A career in Cybersecurity is not your average 9 to 5.

Many choose this field as a career because it’s known to be one of the most challenging yet rewarding territories in Information Technology. There are almost 3 million Cyber Security jobs around the globe, open for future experts.

A decade ago, if we told you that you could pursue your higher education entirely online, would you have believed us? Probably not. All thanks to technology, today, pursuing a full-time virtual study abroad program has become a possibility!

Now, more than ever, studying abroad virtually seems like a great plan. Especially for students who wish to pursue a degree from a world-class university from the comfort of their home. You can even study and work simultaneously without getting homesick.

It looks like online learning is here to stay. Both educators and students have benefitted from the flexibility it offers. All you need is a device and a proper internet connection to access your course.

Picking a virtual study abroad program can be tedious. That is why we have listed out a few tips to keep in mind while considering a virtual study abroad program.

Do your research!

To make sure you benefit from your virtual study abroad program, you must do sufficient research about the university and the course you like to pursue.

Make sure it’s valuable

Before you decide on a course, understand how it will benefit you in the future. Make sure that taking a particular course virtually will help you gain knowledge and add value to your resume. To make sure your money and efforts go to the right place, do your research and see if the university you pick will cater to your needs.

Talk to your peers!

One way to pick the right place is to talk to students who have studied or are currently studying in that particular university. Discuss your points and get their feedback to see if it will be the right choice for you.

Make sure it helps you build networks virtually

One reason most people choose to study abroad is for the exposure it offers. If you are worried that by pursuing a virtual study abroad program you will miss out on gaining multi-cultural exposure, do not worry. Even when you take your classes online, you will get to interact and collaborate with teachers and students from across the globe. You will engage and build networks with people from different fields. This will help you understand what it is like to learn and grow in a diverse environment without having to travel.

Understand the flexibilities

One of the best things about a virtual study abroad program is the flexibility it offers. It gives you the freedom to choose your learning environment, allowing you to learn from anywhere.

Another advantage is that most universities deliver lectures both online and through recorded videos. This allows students to listen to their lectures at a time that is convenient for them. Even when a student misses out on a particular class, they can read through it anytime.

Affordability plays a major role!

For a lot of people, plans to study abroad remain a dream simply because they cannot afford the expenses. If you are someone like that, then this is your chance. Compared to on-campus study abroad programs, the fees of virtual abroad programs are comparatively less expensive. Not only will you cut down on your tuition fees, but also on your accommodation, food, travel and miscellaneous expenses.

When considering a study abroad program, one must also take into account the expenses, the health conditions and barriers that might hinder your plans. However, in a virtual study abroad program, you can easily avoid these barriers.

If you are interested in pursuing a virtual study abroad program, get in touch with us. Start online now, go on- campus soon! So let’s get started, shall we?

With COVID – 19 forcing countries to close borders for international students earlier this year, Australia has managed to welcome its first international student to the country after nearly 9 months. The flight carrying 63 international students from various countries arrived in Australia on November 30th, 2020. The students have now been requested to quarantine themselves for 14 days and follow the precautionary measures taken by the government for their safety and others.

The country of Australia was the most affected economically since a huge part of their economy depends on its international students. Nevertheless, the government was patient and made sure that they reduced the risk factors before they took any step towards reopening the borders for the students. This successful step is just the beginning towards bringing things back to normal for Australia and its international students.

With the economy dipping down due to COVID-19 this year, the Australian government has been really keen on getting international students back to their country to begin their international education. Several measures were taken to resume operations for the past few months but were all paused. But earlier this week, the Australian government has approved a pilot that will bring 70 international students to Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory.

This federally approved pilot is ordered to bring international students from Singapore, Malaysia and China, back into the country under tightly controlled conditions, including two weeks of mandatory, supervised quarantine. The students on their entry into the country will have to stay at the Howard Springs quarantine facility and then on to Charles Darwin University (CDU) to continue in higher education and VET courses. This new arrangement seems to be a really positive note to all the international students aiming to study in Australia.
